Training School "Wave Energy Assessment and Applications" Athens, Greece 16/03/2020-20/03/2020

Wave Energy Assessment and Applications

The Training School will include various topics related with wave energy assessment, devices and technologies. The seminar will be divided in three distinct thematic sessions, namely: 1) wave energy assessment, 2) wave energy devices and technologies and 3) potential environmental effects of wave energy converters and arrays.

Training School Content

The Training School is planned for 5 days, with five hours of training per day;

Day 1

  • An introduction to the wave measurement devices and techniques.

  • Global wave data sources.

  • Introduction to numerical wave modelling in offshore and coastal (shallow water) areas.

Day 2

  • Description and modelling of wave climate

  • Estimation of design (extreme) waves: Methods, effects of wave directionality, multivariate extremes

Day 3

  • Wave energy converters and technologies, including offshore and on-shore technologies/ devices

  • Comparative evaluation of WECs.

Day 4

  • Innovative designs of hybrid wind – wave energy systems.

  • Introduction to the main principles of the hydrodynamic analysis of wave energy devices and arrays.

Day 5

  • Environmental effects of wave energy devices and systems according to the specific device type/technology and the area of interest.
